Team The Trail Shop/Columbia ready to take on Cell C AfricanX Trailrun 2017!
D-day has arrived and the 9th edition of the Cell C AfricanX Trailrun presented by ASICS is upon us.
This year I will be tackling my 7th AfricanX with an array of emotions after a DNF last year due to my back injury. Firstly, I have some demons to conquer after pulling out during stage 2 last year, and secondly, I want to see the progress made with my back 1 year on, after missing almost the whole of 2016 due to the injury.
Ready to take a podium position? No! Ready to have a fun filled weekend with like-minded individuals? Definitely! Returning to the AfricanX each year is like going to a huge family reunion, seeing familiar faces, and some new ones. Arguably SA’s biggest multi-stage race on the calendar, the AfricanX draws the biggest elite field of any team race, as well as a big contingent of new runners, ready to take on their first multi-stage race.
This year I will once again partner up with stalwart team mate Cole Stanton, as The Trail Shop/Columbia Team. Cole is a “veteran” & holder of 4 AfricanX finishing tees! Hopefully this year, he’ll have a partner crossing the finish line with him, and not standing ready with a cold beer waiting on him like last year!
Couple of hours to grind at work, race home, pack and spend some time with the family before I’ll be heading off to register and take my place in those little yellow tents for a camping weekend with some running in the mornings!
See you all soon, safe travels, and let’s leave the racing for tomorrow!
